Living Economies is piloting a programme giving students direct experience of economic cooperation.

Participating classes learn to build and share a resource in a way that minimises waste and benefits everyone equitably.

The programme develops literacy, numeracy and a range of social skills. Students make regular contributions, hold meetings and arrive at shared decisions, taking turns to use the pooled fund to purchase needed items.

Students who choose to take part are expected to honour any agreements they make with the class and contribute as much to the pool as they receive from it.

No one profits financially from this programme. Students can expect that every dollar they contribute will be returned to them when they need it.
